Being avid believers in omens and auguries, they are convinced that Providence has reunited them in order to rekindle their love. A more careful examination of the portents, however, reveals that disaster awaits should they marry. They resign themselves to the dictum of Fate that they must part once again when, unexpectedly, Fortune smiles and Love is granted a happy reprieve.
