Published by Belaieff Verlag. PE.BEL273. Alexander Tikhonovich Gretchaninov was born in Moscow on October 25th, 1864. His main teachers were Serge Taneiev, Anton Arensky, and especially Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov. who gave him in addition financial assistance, which was vital, considering the fact that Gretchaninov's parents did not approve of his musical study and would not support him. , with whom he had a close friendship which only ended in 1908 at Rimsky's death. A few years after the Revolution, Gretchaninov emigrated, first to France in 1925, and then to the United States in 1939.
