The authorship of ’Joe Cooley’s Reel’ has long been disputed and will probably never be known for certain. It has been attributed to John McGrath, Joe Mills, an unidentified old man playing
an aged concertina and of course Joe Cooley himself. It also goes by the names ’Put the Cake in the Dresser’, ’Tulla’s Reel’ and ’Luttrel’s Pass’ to name a few.
Though written with tin whistles in mind, this duet could be performed by almost any sort of woodwind duo (clarinet, flute, saxophone, etc.). A non-woodwind pair could work as well.
